Carnival in Bridgewater (Somerset) is held annually on Friday after a night of Gaia Fawkes (Guy Fawkes). The main part of it - the parade of light vehicles (truck or platfomah that pull tractor) with live scenes, which is punctuated with procession walking participants. I understand that participants in the parade represent associations from all over Somerset.
Guy Fawkes Night has become an official holiday in 1605, the year after of corresponding decree of King James I in memory of a failed attempt to blow up Parliament met (I think in a room above a pub), a a situation of chaos in the country and pave the way for the English invasion to restore Catholicism in England. Clearly, this Protestant version of events. On this night, often burned effigies of Guy Fawkes (the main organizer of the conspiracy) and the Pope. But not only. At present, this tradition in different parts of Britain has developed into a series of performances with fire, light and fireworks. A kind of English equivalent of Diwali, if it does not provide an element of policy very different properties.
