Our Darlings
The Children's Treasury of Pictures and Stories
London
John F. Shaw and Co.
1911-1912 (?)

Book - Almanac with a set of stories for boys, girls or on a theme in my opinion were the main type of books for children in the 20 th century up until the last his quarters. This impression is created because of the abundance of such material at flea markets. Children's story, especially with the illustrations, was published in a separate cover - a rarity on the market. Confess little interest in this type of book project, I did not call. Between 1918 and 1950 extend the color often issued only cover. Almanac 1925, the outwardly little different from the almanac 1952. Illustrations are usually linear - so probably cheaper. And boring, I do not know why. In all - the same type. The only exception is the series of the Ruppert, but here - not much diversity, though for different reasons.

Almanac which I quote below clearly represents an entirely different project. Solid multi-colored cover his kinship with mngotsvetnymi Edwardian bindings children's books, which are in themselves a complete phenomenon, even if you do not look inward. First of all, to recall the bindings publisher Blackie in Glasgow. The second characteristic of this anthology - a variety of styles of illustration, with a rather ubidetelnom as each of them. I chose only Several characteristic. And, of course - advertising. In this case, the Russian reference:)
